What Is Mini IVF?
Mini-IVF is a specialized type of in-vitro fertilization (IVF) that uses minimal amounts of hormone stimulating medication to achieve a more natural response from the ovaries. This gentle but targeted approach results in a smaller cohort of higher quality eggs and improved chances for a healthy pregnancy.
The most significant difference between traditional IVF and mini-IVF is the amount of hormone-stimulating medications. Less aggressive ovarian stimulation leads to fewer cycle-monitoring visits, fewer injections, and fewer blood draws.
Benefits of Mini IVF
What if we’ve gone too far down the road of “more is better” and lost sight of the needs of the patient – you – and your overall health, well-being, and peace of mind?
Although there is no single medication protocol that is best in every case, there are many benefits of reduced stimulation fertility treatment, such as:
Meet Dr. Anne Davis,
MD, MS, FACOG
Reproductive Endocrinologist
“I’ll never forget when my own doctor told me and my husband that it was time to try IVF. I was actively writing a paper on the lived experiences of fertility patients when I found out I was going to be a patient myself. It was surreal, to say the least.”
As a patient herself, more than most other fertility specialists, Dr. Anne Davis understands that providing compassion, high-quality care, and personal attention is critical during treatment.
“I experienced the crisis myself – it fundamentally changed how I think and feel about my patients and what they go through. I saw that a holistic and personalized approach to fertility medicine was desperately needed and I made it my professional mission to bring that option to my patients.”
Dr. Davis realized her calling to fertility medicine as a student at the University of California - San Diego when she had the opportunity to be an egg donor in 1998. From that moment on, she recognized that infertility was not just a medical diagnosis, but a time of crisis. After earning her MS from the University of California - Berkeley in Health and Medical Sciences, Dr. Davis explored IVF treatments to start her family.
Prior to returning to California, Anne completed her training as a Reproductive Endocrinology Fellow at the Cleveland Clinic where she participated in groundbreaking advances in reproductive surgery. When she had the opportunity to return to San Diego as a Reproductive Endocrinologist, she was thrilled to come home to San Diego and jumped at the opportunity.
Dr. Davis and her staff share a commitment to the natural cycle and low stimulation fertility treatments, and to providing gentler, patient-centered care in a state-of-the-art facility. When not at the office, Dr. Davis can be found with her family hiking near Black Mountain or tending to her many orchids at home.
